Hutchinson ABS is seeking a VIE to fill the position, VIE Surface Prep Process Engineer. This position reports to the Industrialization Manager. The position is located in Cadillac, Michigan, United States.
Position Description: VIE Surface Prep Process Engineer will support position with responsibilities focused on day to day operations with technical problem solving, continuous improvement, downtime reductions, change over time reductions, shop floor documentations, PDCA approach to problem solving. This position is focused on assembly and assembly automation. This position will interface with PLCs and Rotics. This individual will be expected to troubleshoot assembly automation problems and mechanical issues.

The Grand Rapids is the technology center for AVS. The corporate headquarters for AVS is a full-service design, test, and manufacture of anti-vibration components for automotive ICE engines, BEV, PHEV, and anti-vibration bracketry for mounting accessory items. Processes you will find here are Rubber Mixing, Rubber Injection, Plastic Injection and complex automated assembly.
This role is a Manufacturing/Process Engineer position focused on supporting daily production operations, particularly in surface prep. The engineer is responsible for troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, PLC, and robotic issues; driving continuous improvement; reducing downtime; improving changeover times; and enhancing overall equipment effectiveness. The position leads productivity and process improvement projects, maintains shop floor documentation, and supports tooling, equipment design data, and preventive maintenance systems. Additional responsibilities include monitoring production KPIs, implementing corrective actions, and supporting surface preparation processes such as cement coating and grit blasting.

Mission:
1. Drive Daily Manufacturing Performance
Troubleshoot assembly automation, PLC related issues, robotics, and mechanical problems.
Monitor and improve key production metrics (OEE, uptime, throughput, quality).
Reduce downtime and changeover time through hands on problem solving.
2. Lead Continuous Improvement & Productivity Projects
Identify and implement improvements that increase throughput, efficiency, and machine utilization.
Apply PDCA and structured problem solving to eliminate recurring issues.
Document all improvements and maintain accurate shop floor documentation.
3. Support Equipment, Tooling, and Process Reliability
Maintain and update tooling design databases, machine designs, and PM documentation.
Track equipment KPIs, identify trends, and implement corrective actions.
Support surface preparation processes (cement coating, grit blasting, phosphate).
4. Collaborate Across Operations & Engineering
Work with Plant Management, Production Unit Managers, and Launch teams on assigned projects.
Participate in cross functional meetings to address safety, quality, and productivity concerns.
